Technical Fibres — Para-Aramid

Para-aramid fibre belongs to a family of synthetic products. Polyarn recycles these fibres and processes them into milled fibre suitable for a wide range of industrial applications.

Characteristics

Why recycled para-aramid performs

These milled fibres offer the following characteristics:

  • High strength — up to five times stronger than steel on an equal weight basis.
  • High heat resistance — some types resist more than 500 °C.
  • Dimensional stability under sustained mechanical and thermal load.
  • Circular origin — recovered from production residue instead of virgin production.

Polyarn offers two types of milled fibre: carbon fibres and aramid fibres. Our affiliated company Polyvel bv supplies a range of milled and staple fibres based on 100% recycled para-aramid, with fibre lengths from 200 microns to 3 mm.

Applications

Mainly used in these production processes

Gaskets

Fibre reinforcement in sealing materials for pressure and temperature resistance.

Brake linings

Friction materials requiring thermal stability and consistent behaviour under load.

Thermoplastic compounds

Reinforced compounds where strength-to-weight ratio and heat resistance are decisive.

Beyond these processes, milled carbon and aramid fibres are applied in aerospace and military applications, in ballistic-rated body armour fabric, in bicycle tyres and as an asbestos substitute.
